I'm half way through an intensive with the amazing women of Femme Fatale, and here's a clip of one of my homework sessions for this week.
I've come to realize my preference is for moving smoothly, and that popping isn't how I want to represent the music, at all... But it's such a great challenge!
I've been popping for a whole two weeks now lol, definitely a long way to go!
I'm taking a Waving intensive, and one of my exercises was working with ice cream (specifically making a sundae) and stillness... Here's my sunny freestyle. And sorry it's without sound :(
I'm working with a single song for my freestyle flows, starting online here with yesterday's post.
I'm not really that happy with today's, as it seems a little scattered. I'm going to try narrowing my concepts down tomorrow, and maybe adding a few pre-set options for development.
I was having a hard time focusing on a single concept to work with at the end of my practice today. So I decided not to stress about it, and just work with flow in general. Music is (my new fav song) Tincture by Feral Fauna, KR3TURE, Heather Christine
Using the elbow as an engine or movement initiator.
02/19/21 Is You Is (2 of 2) - on Saturday's Belly Dance Brew - I was thinking about locks versus smooth flow, as well as lots of upper body (my knees aren't doing well today so I need to be careful as I won't be able to dance full out even for the show).
I'm using this music for my performance on Saturday's Belly Dance Brew - I was thinking about locks versus smooth flow, as well as lots of upper body (my knees aren't doing well today so I need to be careful as I won't be able to dance full out even for the show).
I focused on working my shoulders as a base for my arms, and layered open and close on that. I'm hoping to use some of these prompts for my piece for Saturday's Belly Dance Brew improvisation!
Another crack at working solid arm positions without many dance movements. Also working body angles with strength and dynamics.
Inspired by classes with Aziza, I've been working with arm positions in my personal practice. Here I was trying not to flail my arms (I've been feeling they've been moving very randomly when I watch my recorded improvisations), but place them into specific dynamic positions - also trying NOT to add much else besides the lower body posture and placement.
It's been a long while since I'm improvised for a bunch of reasons. First my knees have been healing, and then, well I just haven't felt like it.
Practice has been a struggle, honestly everything has been a struggle right now.
But I managed to do it at the end of my practice today. Don't love it, but that's not the point. The point is I did it. Small steps, and tomorrow is another day.

I so love arms, and I often feel they are the most expressive part of my body. I'm very comfortable using them on their own and as additions or embellishments... But every now and again, I feel they take over!
From my personal practice, here's an exploration session with a focus of playing with open and close.
